DONNA KENNY KIRWAN
I've always considered writing as an art. Whether drafting a press release or news story or creating copy for an appeal letter, event invitation, or social media post, finding the right way to say something is key to getting the message across.
"Grab the reader's attention in the lead," basic advice from a college journalism professor, has held me in good stead throughout my career - from newspapers to PR and advertising, and later, government and corporate communications. Whether it's the "lead" in a press release or newsletter article; a speech or a blog post, the artistry comes in choosing the best words to fit the situation and weaving together sentences that strike the right tone, whatever that may be: to inform, appeal, amuse, or inspire.
I am a former journalist and communications specialist with experience in news and feature writing/editing, editing, public relations, media relations, social media and web content, fundraising, community outreach, and event planning. (Take a look at my resume and portfolio gallery)
In addition to my writing skills, I am also a watercolor artist (visit my art gallery), and have experience in photography and basic videography.
